The Brauer College Exchange Delegation from Warrnambool, Victoria, who have been our annual hosts for the ‘Youth Homestay Programme’, visited Fukuoka for the first time in 2019. This year, 14 students stayed in Fukuoka for six days from Wednesday 3 July to Monday 8 July.
Thanks to the cooperation of Fukuoka Maizuru High School, Brauer students were able to experience a fulfilling school life while staying with their host students home.
After welcoming the exchange group at Fukuoka Airport on the afternoon of 3 (Wed) July, they met their host families at Fukuoka Maizuru High School.
On 4 and 5 July, the students experienced Japanese culture at the Fukuoka Maizuru High School, including calligraphy, tea ceremony, flower arrangement and kendo. They enjoyed cooking yakisoba and onigiri in the cooking class and also attended regular classes such as science and English.
They also enjoyed a short trip to Dazaifu with their host students.
On 7 July, the day before the last day of the homestay, we organised a farewell party.
Not only the host students and families, but also the students from last year's and this year's homestay programme came to the party, making it a lively event.
At the end of the party, each Brauer students gave a speeche in Japanese, thanking their host families and sharing their happy memories of Fukuoka.
The delegation left Hakata on 8 July by bullet train in the morning and returned safely to Australia on 14 July after sightseeing in Hiroshima and Osaka.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the teachers and students of Fukuoka Maizuru High School, the host families and our members of the FJAS for their cooperation and support.
